this is not at all to discourage you, however, you need some luck to find a analysis type of job

I have CFA and MBA and some analysis experience just like you, still I find it a uphill battle to find invewstment analysis related job. Main obstacle will be first, how experience in China and HK are perceived in Canada with completely different industry profie, second is English, I felt I can speak pretty well but I admit my writing will never match those educated locally.

it does not mean that you can't find a analysis related job at all, just help you with some expectation management so you don't get too frustruated at start.

  • Does a CFA without Canadian work experience still need a CIM(Canadian Investment Manager) designation?
I am a CFA + US MBA with about 5 year research analyst experience in China and HK. To step in the Canada investment field, is a CIM designation still necessary for my job hunting?
    • wow... you are very Niu le... dont' need le ba....
    • No you don't. CFA + MBA - you got it all. never heard of CIM - is it sth offered by CSI?
      • yes, it is provided by CSI, which includes three exams, CSC+IMT(Investment Management Techniques)+PMT(Portfolio Management Techniques).

      • guys, Canadian market is too small for taking all CFA. If this was one year ago I would say by all means find a way sneaking into US - lots of opp south of boarder. But the way things are now - no solution
        • I am adjusting my expectation now. But I wonder whether it is necessary to start from a teller in a bank? If it is, it will be a huge frustration.
          • I start from bank too... I guess no one want to hire CFA as teller either, it will be a huge mis-match,
    • 在China and HK做analyst人尽其才不好吗? 为何要来小加?
      • 你以为“小加小加”的很酷吗?就像是大地方来的见过世面了吗?北京人里都只由傻A一类的才成天说什么“小X小X”的。
        • Discuss professionally and courteously please!
    • you can try MFin...
      • not sure it's worth the cost - unless employer's willing to cover tuition. get a relavent JOB LZ - don't even think of becoming a teller as they won't let you be. no more study or exams - they are not fun
