FYI

In my case OSAP waiver is decided by my taxable income in the year I graduated. I graduated in summer and started to work in September. Since I have only 4 months income, I qualified for the OSAP waiver. I don't know what is the qualifying income, but I am sure it's lower than my annual salary. The funny thing is I didn't even know there is this thng called OSAP waiver. I took a loan from my bank to payback all my OSAP because the bank loan rate is slightly lower. Naturally I didn't apply for the waiver. The government automatically credited my bank account after I filed the tax return the next year. oops, thank you :-) Mssg might be right, don't think about it, it will follow you.

  • 工作学习 / 求学深造 / 请教各位有经验者,我拿OSAP loan的同时是否可以打工(非CASH工)? 有没可能减少我的贷款额或将来降低我的减免额?若这样一来我岂不是白干.
    • The income will make the difference in your next OSAP term. 白干? I don't think so.
      • by next term, you mean next year or the coming winter term? please tell me.
        • the next OSAP assessment of your application. ask financial aid office in your school.
          • thank a lot , buddy.
          • by the way, if it is TA or RA of winter term, then i cannot accept it since i already get the loan for winter term.
            • You can have income while receiving OSAP loan, but you are required to report your income next time you submit your application.
              • i see, you mean it will not affect this year's. thank you:>
                • ask FAO exactly how and when the change of your income would make the difference.
              • am i right?
    • I do not know
      • 别干傻事,读书要紧
        • thanks, but i need some extra money.
    • 你有一定收入了, osap肯定少给你
      • the thing is i already get the loan begin in last september and the following monthes.
        • 你情况改变了要通知他们的, 据我知道的, 他们不会要你把多给你的钱退回去的, 但是他们会从下回给你钱里扣除这回多给你的部分
          • i get the point , thank you.
          • that mean i cannot accept the TA or RA for the winter term?
            • you can, and you will.
              • but if the osap decrease the part i earn from the work, then it is mean i work without extra money, since that part can be waivered when pay back.

                  1. OSAP decides if you have enough income to cover tuition and other necessary expenses, and how much you can get.

                  2. You need to tell the truth.

                  3. If you think OSAP will waive part of your loan after you graduate, WRONG. Even OSAP would , trust me, you don't want yourself in the situation like that.

                  4. The money you earn is yours. the money you get from OSAP is a loan.

                  Good luck.
                • for 3, why? if i can get a good job after graudation. ok, i like to pay back all. but in present job market, i doubt. then why not use this social benefit?
                  • go ahead
                    • ?

                        1. I know you are worried, but hope OSAP waiving your loan is not the way out.

                        2. The money you earn now is what you save for the future.

                        3. present will become past.

                        4. Until you knwo for sure when and how much OSAP would waive your loan, jump on the job now.
                        • appreciate your comment, mssg.
