本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛How time flies! One year ago, I have left my family and chose going abroad to study. It was a challenge to me. It took me different environment, culture, and language. Everything is new and strange to me. I have trouble knowing what to do and how to do it. I don’t know where to shop 0r how to deal with the banking system or how to use public transportation. I still remembered the first time when I took the bus in Toronto. What a embarrass situation it was! I didn’t know the door is automatic and I asked the driver loudly: excuse me, could you open the door? I could not get off. “At that time, all the passengers have turned their faces to me and finally I just found it was a auto door. In different culture, we can meet people who think differently from the way we do and who doesn’t always agree with our ideas about life or politics or family or even friendship. Study in such new environment, we are exposed to different and sometime disturbing news, and this experience tests our own values and makes us evaluate why we think the way we do. Furthermore, it is very effective for us studying in the surrounding using English and we are forced to use it whether or not we feel like it, we can learn more rapidly and more easily.
My friends asked me before I have been to Canada: Jessie that will be the hard work for you to study abroad. First, English is the second language for you and that is the language barrier; second, you need to take care yourself for everything and no more entertainment, no more shopping with us there. Can you endure that lonely life? To be honest, at the beginning, I exactly cannot adapt to such boring life and the hard work in school. However, I remind myself time and time again that the main purpose for here is studying. I must try my best to get the good achievement. “Where there is will, there is a way” The proverb I have always believed in.I set a goal for each semester and I studied those late nights. I made it through many obstacles placed in front of me that I could never overcome. I made it through all the tests and projects, the research, the reading and more reading which assigned to me, somehow, I made it.
I am so glad that I can achieve my goal finally, and thank you all professors, classmates, my parents, my family member, relatives and friends.
