本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Most Chinese like us would prefer phone cards due to its lower rate and convenience. It is nothing wrong being price sensitive and everyone expects to maximize the value of their money. While enjoying a lower rate, you may have to bear disadvantages including instability of quality; insufficiency of purchased talking time, irresponsible customer service and sometimes takes risks. They may increase the rate any time without notice. An example is the reaction of phone car issuers towards an unexpected network access charge increase calling to china. They soared the rate more than 10 times just over night. This is in fact an excuse, as network charge increase is not necessarily leading to a 10-time rate raise.
I had bought a couple of phone cards in the past but none of them satisfied me. Either I got poor connection when talking to the other party in China or I got much shorter talking time than the card face value. I decided to stick to Bell Canada’s long distance. It’s been two years since then and I enjoy a bundle service of 120 minutes free long distance calling to anywhere in the world. The trade-off is I use Sympatico High Speed. Though I pay around $ 40 for the High Speed I feel it’s worth it. In case I exceed the limit, I simply pay $0.17/m calling China.
The customer service representative of Bell Canada ensured me that there would be no rate increase on my long distance rate calling China. The change is I will pay $2.95 network charge as of 1st Dec. 2002 instead of paying $1.25 now.
