It has taken me a long time to understand the differences between these words: let, make, get, have.
The reason I found it difficult for me to understand those words is because they are all translated into Chinese "RANG(4)". That is why I have confused them for a long time.
Answering telephone is one of my job duties. When somebody was not in the office at those moments, I used to tell the people on the other side of the phone, 'When so-and-so comes back, can I LET him(or her) call you back?" Now I know, I was not using the verb LET correctly, in that case, I should say" HAVE him(or her) call you back".
The diffence is, to let means to have permission, while to have means to ask somebody to do something. To get is very much like to have, while to make always means to force somebody to do something.
