本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛1. Read newspapers and magazines very day. Toronto Star, Global and Mails, Time and Economists. That would give you enough updates on events both local and around the world to carry on a conversation.
2. Read 1000 books.
Recommended Novels: Lee Child collection (thriller), Robert Ludlum collection (about spys), David Baldacci collection (thriller), J D Robb collection (Mystery), Sandra Brown collection (mystery),Jeffery Deaver collection (mystery),
John Grisham (about lawyers), Flynn Vince collection (counter intelligence)...
Classic literature: Charles Dickens collection, Jane Austen collection, Jack London, Kurt Vonnegut collection...
Biography: Theodore Roosevelt,Bill Clinton, Micheal Caine...
National Geographics (excellent magazine to enlarge your knowledge and vocabulary)
George RR Martin fantasy collation (HBO has finished first seaon on The Game of Thrones)
One or two psycological or philosophical books
3, Watch TV series
Desperate House Wivies,Brother and Sisters,Modern Families and Office (you will learn a lot slangs)
Boston Legal 5 seasons(you will learn how to speak like well-educated individual)
Friends (learn English humour, understand English body language)
4, Watch a lot of movies, try not to look at subtitles. (learn how to ascertain a conversation in a noisy background)
5. Read along with audio books (yeah, pay attention to famous "r" sound, stress of the words and tone), remember you can't spell right if you can't sound right;you can't get your meaning straight if you don't know the tone.
6. Join a book club so you can write something which will be judged by others.
It might take more than ten years, but I assure you that after all this tears and sweat, you will speak a refined and precise English, free of accent even to native ears.
I have to confess that I haven't done all these things on my list, but I am getting closer each day and I believe my list will get me where I want to be someday.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
