APPLICATION FOR P.ENG (1)

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Remember: First, you must be patient on the long way to go. The more difficult you get something; the more valuable it would be. Just consider that you invest your time and you would probably get good future as return. If you do not invest, the time still passed. It is also some kind of Guarantee that even if you were laid off from one company, you could jump to another easily with P.eng Title.

When I was thinking applying for this, I persuaded my friend who was also a civil engineer before to send the application together with me. And he said he was told that it is very difficult to pass that INTERVIEW for immigrant engineers and it took at least 3 years to get the license, and even longer! I insisted to send mine while he did nothing. After I passed the interview, he regretted and started to apply for it this year. One year delayed…I am using this story just want to tell those non-IT engineer immigrants that you’d better apply as soon as possible, and you can update your information at anytime during the assessment. So you don’t need to get everything ready when you send the form off.

I have a colleague from India, he send his application form 3 months after he landed(March, 2000), taking his friend’s advice. Actually, at that time, he didn’t have any referee at all, because he has no job. After he sent the application, he just use Engineer-in-Training /P.Eng is in application as the crown to get a lab staff job in an engineering company very quickly. He showed them the PEO’s letter/card for receiving his application, and the employer trusted him, why not? After half a year later he joined our company, to be a technician as start. He took the interview this March and passed it in June. He is going to write PPE this August. His process is a year longer than mine but anyway he is approaching to the goal.

I give the above examples to encourage non-IT immigrant engineers to get your courage back. Nothing is impossible if you really do something. Not just hearing others stories..difficult? failed? Impossible? Trust yourself! If you never tried, how could you know what it would be taste to you?

Another saying I would like to correct is “you only can apply after you get one year experience in Canada.” It is not true. When I was considering about application (3 months after I worked), my friend told me that I should wait till one year to start the application. I e-mailed to the agent of PEO and they encouraged me to apply as early as possible and I could benefit from the time saving on the process. The agent is right.

Anyway, do something as start and follow direction step by step, that is the only way you could get to your destination.

I don’t know what stages are you in? Already sent your application? If not, e-mail to the PEO agent right now. They will send you an application form 2 or 3 days later. Then if you have any specific question, do not hesitate to ask me. If you are preparing for interview, I will give you some introduction or if you need practice, I can practice with you to make you confident and comfortable.

Never give up! Specific questions are welcome. My background is: B.Eng in China, Civil Engineering (Foundation/Geotechnical), Working in a consultant company as a lab/field data analyst at the beginning. No super, just do something and follow directions and well prepared at each stage. I can do this, you too.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
