Gray zone

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛There is one man in my life who I can not forget. This man had this swallowing problem forever, as the first day I met him. He ate slowly, and coughing and drooling when he swallow. He must be fed by staff and others. He cannot move voluntary, and he cannot talk; but he is strong. I heard his wife was good to him, but i never met her before those days when the thing happened.
He was unfortunate to get cold in that breakout. His fever couldn't be controlled by regular medicine, then he was send out to hospital. The cold was cured in the hospital, but the nurse in hospital not familiar to feed him. Doctor in hospital gave him a diagnosis: Risk of choking when he eats. A order was coming up: nothing by mouth. His family had a choice of putting an tube in his stomach to offer him food, or let him die naturally. He could live at least five years with the tube, but his family chose the later choice. They didn't go to his former family doctor or check with staff who care him. He was then sent back. Staff couldn't give him food, because there is possible that he died of choking, and that is legal issue. So, we watched him dying. I couldn't forget that he was struggling for sip of water when staff gives him mouth care.
His wife showed up at the last day, after we called her and told her this was the time. She with their son came, didn't say anything. They wait, then they left. They stated that they are too sad to watch him dying. So there was this man, lying in his bed, struggling for last breath, went though the other world all along by himself. And this happened in a democratic country, in which, dog will be treated like a baby.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

    • What a sad posting on a Saturday. Feel bad for the man. Did anyone contact the man's mother? She must know everything about feeding her son.
      • I guess, his mother was waiting for him in other world, he is pretty old
