To t2003cn(David)

Never want to talk about politics again after Jun4 1989.
Try to pursue a happier life, a life that I really want.
My understanding is that happy life and successful life are not the same.
We know life is not fair, life is not perfect. But I think I am blessed.
We know race discrimination exists every where, so I choose not to complain. (In my opinion, Canada is almost the best country as far as race discrimination is concerned)

Career is just part of life. Maybe I am not longer that ambitious, but I know I would be happier if I choose to do what I want to do, and never judge myself by what status I can reach.

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛June 13 2001 -- that is the day when I came to Canada. Time flies, I just cannot imagine that I have actually been here THAT long!

Still remember clearly what happened 7 years ago........

The sadness of leaving parents, the unsecure feeling of the future, and the ambition. I was so sure that I was just a visitor to Canada, and would go back to China after I get the citizenship and get some education certificates that can help my career.

But I stayed, I stayed here for 7 years already, and will very likely to stay for my life. Canada -- a country makes me feel that everything is possible, a country makes me feel I am free, a country that I am pround of.

Still remember the hardness of settling down. The first night I stayed in a small room in a big house with only one simple bed and dirty dirty beding. I lived in that small room for 3 days until I found a temporary room in Jane / Sheppard area. The rental market was so bad that time, almost no chance to find somewhere decent to live. I could not afford to live in a hotel any way.

Still remember that I actually went into Price Chopper and wished that they could give me a cashier job to start with. I did talk to the manager and of course they did not hire me.

Still remember that I sent out more than 10 resumes everyday. For how long? I can not remember. But all I can remember is that I did not stop doing that until I was hired by IBM. I thank God for that, God has always been very generous to me. There are lots of miracles in my life. I honestly do not think those miracles could have happened without God. (I probably will write another blog about these miracles later on)

Still remember that my first CGA course (FA3). With my limited accounting knowledge, it was really hard, but I survived. I did pretty well in all my CGA courses and got the designation in 2005.

Still remember that the first time I went to Niagara, and was surprised by its magnificence. Niagara is always one of my favorite scenery spots ever since.

Still remember the first time to see heavy heavy snow. I would like to thank M who made my first winter not that miserable.

Still remember that I had to stand beside the TTC driver, just to be sure that I got off the right stop.

Still remember the first time I saw the beautiful maple leaves turning red, so peaceful.

Still remember my little house actually had W&D, A&J and K living happily together. Although we are all over GTA now, but we will always be very good friends.

Still remember lots, lots and lots…..

Immigrating to Canada is one of the two most wonderful decisions I have made in my life. I am proud of myself!!!

    • Thanks for sharing your nice words and experience!

          • Thanks for your reply.
      • Good questions, would like to see LZ's comment too, here is my two cents.

        • Good point too. It will take time. Our children will get benefits.
她的people skill and communication skill is execllent
训练最多的就是leadership ,people and communication skills.
Be postive and focus on postive,
还有不要过分敏感,要open mind and listen different perspective ,even sometimes they are very negative. Belive in yourself, you can make difference and you can make the change!
          • 建议看一本书叫 From good to Great,讲公司culture and leadership development.。 Hedge dog concept
    • after 7 years, your english still sucks
        • That may be true to arcadians. Their English is often excellent. :(
Still remember, I was like him/her....
          • Still remember, I was like him/her....
      • I think his/her English is not bad. What else are you expecting? Are you expecting a professional writer? Writing is not about elaborating; it is all about using the heart to write, to express authentic feelings.
    • Good for you! It is always nice to enjoy life, enjoy the sadness and happiness of making the life. Everything is possible! This is also what Canada tells me. Enjoy it, my friend.
      • The goal is to express complex concepts using common vocabulary.
        • complex concepts?
          • emotions, feelings
      • please. english skills or grammar errors are not what we are supposed to see here. if there is any piece of word you can't understand, go ahead and ask, I bet that the post owner would like to explain.
    • I like the way you expressed your authentic feelings in this article which actually aroused the same feelings of the readers. Also expecting your next one about those miracle happened in your life.
      • Still remember, I was like him/her....
          • Here
Other than a few typos, it's a nice article with no grammar errors. She can easily pass CGA. Her TOEFL is above 270/300, or above 650 if you are more familiar with the old score. People here are very mean and jealous about other's success. They don't understand proper English grammar so called it "mistake". If you want to learn English, learn from hers. I especially like her confidence and spirit. Thanks.
            • Agree, I am wondering why those people have to act like this,
haven't they been taught that if you can't say something nice you just don't say it. why don't someone who picked on her English just step up and rewrite it and let's see what your perfect english is.
              • 好奇问下, 是谁教你的:if you can't say something nice you just don't say it.?, 再解释下what your perfect english is.
    • Keywords
      IBM, CGA
但不知道为什么看着特别别扭,“a country makes me feel that everything is possible, a country makes me feel I am free“我无话可说,“a country that I am proud of”看着难受!
    • So what's the other most wonderful decision you made in your life? Hope you don't mind telling.
      • I landed in Canada on the same day you did. June 13th, 2001
I landed in Canada on the same day you did. June 13th, 2001. But I came back to China after getting my MBA degree.I and my wife could not find a job and my family lived under severe pressure.Saddness and bitterness are the impressions that still hurt me now. Ironically, last night, I and my wife were talking about sending our daughter to Canada college after her finishing her senior high school. Although I failed to surivie in Canada, it does not mean Canada is not better than China. It is not a country suiting me. It is still the dream land of my soul although achieved big successes in both careera and business in the past 7 years in China.
      • No offense. I think if you put "My wife and I...." instead of "I and my wife...." It will be easier for surviving in Canada. ^_^
