Honours degree is an academic degree granted by University, Applied degree is a degree granted by Colleges and Technological Institutions. Read More

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛Honours degrees are more theorical and in depth. In general, they do not require students to complete a co-op or internship semester to graduate; however, there are some excpetions. Some programs require students to complete at least 1 co-op placement, students failed to find a placement will be transfered to a non co-op program. These degrees are recognized by all university as basis for admission purposes to their Masters/PhD programs.

Applied degrees train students to be job ready; they are offered by Colleges and Institution of Technology ( almost same as Community Colleges). As in their name "Applied", you apply what you've learned. These degrees have mandatory co-op requirements. Students must complete at least 1 four months co-op term. These degrees are more practical with hands-on trainning to train students to be job ready. However, they are not considered to be an Academic degree, that means University will not recognize them as equivalent of being 4-year honours degree for admission purposes. Most Colleges and Technological institutions have articular agreements with some Universities to allow their applied degree holders to gain entrance eligibility to Universities' Master programs. In general, Applied degree holders will be assessed on a case by case basis when making admission decisions to Master programs.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

      • thank you so much, dota,i'm also wondering what's difference between them. BTW, what's difference between specialized honous degree and honous degree.
        • the design of University programs can be very unique, there are many options. For example:
a Honours Bachelor degree in Business. Students have the options to choose from specialized areas such as Accounting, Human resource, Marketing. Or they can major in those areas; however, they still have room to take a minor OR some other courses to satisfy the degree requirement. A honours degree without specialization means student want to study in all topics (or certain topics) that is enough to satisfy the degree requirement.
          • thanks a lot
