thanks again.

now York already give me 90 transferred credit grant and i know it's needed total 120 credits for graduation on BA. I'm not sure how many credits transferred by Ryerson. Although My program is finance, I already took all of CGA courses in Centennial College, actually my coordinator instructor let me choose which major i want to graduate by,accounting or finance, since i seemed took 2 diploma courses. I chose finance just because i don't want to waste so many financial field certificates.
I know CGA similar to CFA,required related working experiences in the field. thank you for your information, and i do appreciate it.

      • Both are good, you decide
Either one is a good decision. They both meets the entrance requirements (prerequisit studies) for CA and CMA programs. However, there is a slight difference in CGA transfer credit policy. You can get all CGA level 4 transfer credits (including FA4) with 3 challenge exams FN2, TX2 and AU2 . Whereas Ryerson is allowed up to level 4 (excluding FA4) and only AU2 can be challenged. http://www.cga-ontario.org/contentfiles/program_requirements/university.aspx?order=52 click on your School.
        • thank you for your information, and i appreciate it. I just heard Atkinson is a night school and so less chances for employment after graduation, really??
      • 偶国内大本就是读的会计,不知道对我现在有没有帮助,另外我是属于DIRECT ENTRY,不是从第一年级读起的,因为我在这边COLLEGE已经修完三年的DIPLOMA了,谢谢你的信息.
        • Then Ryerson
Ryerson has a direct entery policy for students who completed a 3 year business diploma. Credits will be transfered accordingly to your diploma. In other words, Ryerson will recognize more transfer credits than York.
          • thank you so much, are u from Ryerson? i found you know it very well.
            • No I am from Seneca
As this is my last semester at Seneca College; however, i did conduct a research on all degree completion opportunities. My CGPA is high enough to enter almost any University in Canada. I have all the costs and benefits analysis in my workbook (yes, I am a crazy researcher).
              • I heard most of accounting courses taken in Seneca tend to more theoretical than other colleges.
                • Yes
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛yup, the third year of Accounting and Finance (ACF) program integrates everything we've learned in year 1 and 2. that means we are not only learning new concepts in third year but we're also refreshing our memories. This is a good program that prepares students for University studies and transfering to CGA.

There is a Post grauduate certificate program called Accounting and Information Technology (AIT). It satisfies CGA level 4 and you can directly transfer to CGA PACE level after you have completed this program with "B" in those Accounting courses.
Here is a fact stated by my program cordinator: " students from Seneca's ACF program seem to be doing better than students from other Colleges in the AIT program".

ehh since you are going Ryerson or York, this does not matter to you.

Remember, when you are in University, you might want to plan for CA, CMA and CGA prerequisit courses. I have a friend who only planned for CA courses but didn't look into CMA and CGA, now he is stuck because he didn't get a job at CA approved training firm (a CA public firm that trains CA students). He is not allowed to write the CMA entrance exam and CGA didn't let him transfer up to PACE level.

                  Always keep your doors open!

Do you mind telling me where you get your Business Administration diploma from? Is it a 3 year diploam? Did you majored in Accounting? If you already have a diploma and with grades of B or better in CGA accredited courses. It's might be better if you apply to CGA directly. Anway, you already used few hundreds of dollars applying toUniversity, don't waste it.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
                  • so nice u're,dota
Dota, i'm so glad to know you in rolia and you gave me so much information about accounting. Actually my program in college is financial services, and i passed IFIC,CSC,PFPC,LLQP etc. many canadian financial field certificates. However,I found i'm not interested in the jobs on sales in Canadian financial field. I chose the program just because I once worked in banks in China and Canada.
Since i have taken many accounting courses in China during university time, some CGA courses as well in Centennial College, I hope i can continue my accounting study in university in Toronto. My GPA is some high, above 4,but my program isn't accounting, so i'm worried whether i can deal with it in University.
The other question, you said your friend already passed CA exams, why can't she take CGA desigation? Is there any limitation or requirments for it?? I just heard one friend from U of T on CA major is very popular in the employment market.
                    • you misunderstood
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛CA entrance requires the student to have a job or a job offering in a CA approved training firm to start their CA training program. My friend who just graduated from University failed to obtain a job in Public Accounting firm; therefore, he cannot apply to the CA program. Now he is considering alternatives such as CMA and CGA. He cannot write the entrance exam for CMA because he didn't have all of the prerequisit courses such as international business and marketing. He have never thought of becoming a CMA when he was back in university.
As for CGA, i have recommended him to apply to CGA and see how many transfer credits he will get. Not surprisingly, he didn't get as many CGA credits as other students who planned for CGA.

as you may notice, I always mention the word "entrance", meaning, there is still a long way to go before you can be granted the designatory letters such as CGA, CMA or CA even if you graduated from University with a major in Accounting.

Since your Canadian diploma is in Finance, you might not be granted as many transfer credits to University programs as other students who majored in Acocunting in their diploma. I didn't apply applied to University because I have other plans to get a Bachelor's degree and CGA the quickest way possible (yes, I am a crazy researcher).更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛wow 90 transfer credits to a BA degree? wow now that is something new. I am 100% sure that your background is not just a regular College graduate..

As a general guideline for transfer credits to a University program from College, no more than 50% transfer credits will be granted to a 4 year (120 credits) Degree program. York just granted you 75% transfer credits. You must have other credentials such as a Bachelor's degree or even a Masters degree from other institution(s).

Since you are in a BA program, I don't think Accounting courses are open to you. It might be a disadvantage for you to become an Accountant. but hey nothing is for certain (wow 90 transfer credits). Let me get this straight, are you sure you are in a BA program? your first post indicated that you applied to BAS major in Accounting, if it's the BAS program, you can complete all of acocunting courses for CGA, CMA and CA.

BAS program at Atkinson College (part of York University) is not actually a part time program. You can choose to have your courses scheduled on Saturdays or night time (after 6pm) or if you prefer, you can schedule them in day times. The difference in part and full time at Atkinson is the course load. If you take 3 courses or less, you are considered a part time student, if you have 4 or more courses registered in a semester, then you are a full time student.

Anyway, Centennial only have CGA level 3 courses with only 2 courses that can be challenged in CGA level 4. They are Taxation 1 (ACCT226 & FINA333) and Auditing 1 (FINA331 & FINA 332). You still have a long way to go in becoming a CGA. In other words, if you have completed the 4 courses I've mentioned, you can challenge 2 of CGA level 4 courses. Disregard my remarks above, you can complete all of CGA level 1 to 4 at Ryerson or York and gain challenge privilege in CGA PACE level courses.
                          good luck!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
                          • it's actually BA(Business Administration),Dota
Dear dota,i just have bachelor degree in finance again in Fudan University, that's all. Actually, what's BAS,I didn't notice the program before. What's difference between BAS and BA?
I heard Atkinson is the worst college in York, :), although they gave me 90 credits grant. I heard there's internship in Ryerson, which induced me somewhat, but i don't know how many credits grant they will give me. I already took ACCT226 and Auditing 1 in my first semester in Centennial. :), when i took the course ,most of classmates i found are in their last semester,hehe....maybe register office got wrong. Anyway, i don't want to pursue finance again here,xixi.....
Dota,do you know some friends from Ryerson, how's their comments on it?
                            • Maybe York is restructuring their programs.
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛there is a distinction between part and full time students at Ryerson. According to my researches (asking many friends who applied to Ryerson and some are already in Ryerson), the entrance requirement for a College student is strict for full time applicants. Normally students with CGPA of 3.5/4.0 can get into Ryerson's Business management program full time. Whereas, part time Business management only requires 3.0/4.0. I know a few students at Seneca College who were transfered from UofT, Ryerson, York, Waterloo. They didn't like the programs at their University or failed to maintain a certain average were asked to withdraw from the University for a year. So they screwed up in University. I cannot make any comments about Ryerson in general, because they might sue me given that I was never a student at Ryerson; as a result, I am not protected under the "fair comment" exemption for libel. I never asked my friends about how Ryerson is, because I am not planning on going there, but according to the Internet people, Ryerson have a nickname called "Ryerhigh" (applies to full time undergraduate only).更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
                              • BAS
Dota, Bachelor of Administrative Studies, that's my title for program(major in accounting) in Atkinson. I found the admission requirment for Ryerson is much higher than York as i already summitted much more support documents to it than York. But I like to take challenge. As my original thought i want to study as full-time student, but i do don't like to study with high school guys,hehe..... I just applied the direct entry program(accounting) in Ryerson, i don't know whether it's full-time or part-time.
                              • Not really. For those who called it Ryehigh whatever may have never been there before. wish u can survive.
                                • OUAC
If you applied through OUAC then it's a full time application.
                                  • then york's offer is also full-time. still hard to decide, godness.
                                    • suggestions
since York already granted 90 credits, it will take you 1 year to complete the degree.
if later you found out that Ryerson only gives you 60 credits (in Ryerson it's 20 courses = 2 years), you need to complete 4 semesters of studies.

anyother measure, which University is closer to your resident? I normally choose the closest one.
                                      • but i heard Ryerson can provide internship chances, while Atkinson never have it.
                                • hi,are u from Ryerson,can u introduce more about it?
as a direct entry student, how many percentage survived finally?
                                  • i know so many direct entry students in Ryerson, frankly speaking, no one is doing well here especially in accouting. the average grades of the above three courses is around D or D+. just for your information.
                                    • godness
if thus, even they graduate, they still can't be recognized by CGA,right?
                                • don't worry usually those students who are unwilling to put efforts into school don't survive.
                                  • thanks, dota, still no idea how many credit transfers granted from Ryerson. There's big difference for application difficulty between the two universities. Ryerson needs tons of documents........
                                    • ok maybe it's the Degree title
well look at it this way, Bachelor of Commerce vs Bachelor of Administrative Studies. which one do you think sounds better?

Commerce is a business degree whereas Administrative studies is an Art degree. And guess what? since I am in my last semester of ACF at Seneca, most of my classmates applied to Ryerson for direct entery amd they also applied to York's BAS as back up. As you can see why Ryerson wants to see more supporting documents.

However, in my opinion, the degree doesn't matter, what matter is the individual person who is holding the degree. If you want to pursue the CGA designation, York is a better choice because CGA recognize the most credits from york than Ryerson.

If you really like challenges, try applying to Schulich's Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program. I don't think college students with 4.0/4.0 can get in.

My conclusion is that there is an increasing demand for Business programs at Universities these days.
                                      • which university is better for employment, which can grant more transfer credits ,help.....
dear dota,it seemed Schulich's Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program only recruit students from secondary school in Canada and never admit any credits from other schools, that's also the reason why i never think of U of T.
The first point i care is employment in the accounting market after graduation, second is the credits granted since i want to graduate as soon as possible(don't want to wast time).
                                        • it is not about wasting time if u do want to learn something. good luck.
                                          • thanks, I just want more chances for employment and graduate as soon as possible,
