4 Days Travel Plan: Mackinac Island, Agawa Canyon and Manitoulin Island

Start from Toronto at 7:30 am, highway 401, 402 to Sarnia(USA-Canada border); In Michigan, 69 to Flint then 75; Exit at 136 of highway 75, around 1:00 pm, On the highway left is shopping paradise Prime Outlets Birch Run which boasts 170 brand name stores. on the highway right, you will find Frankenmuth City (德国小镇) and stay one night in Saginaw

Second day:
Still highway 75, heading to St. Ignace or Mackinac Bridge; Take ferryboat to Mackinac Island at Mackinaw City or St. Ignace at about 11 am; Go north and discover Superior Lake at Whitefish point. Around 7 pm, go through USA-Canada border to get to Sault Ste Marie to relax in your hotel.

Third day:
A one day wilderness train tour enables you to enjoy superb scenery while taking an old-fashioned train ride to Agawa Canyon. The trip terminates 114 miles north of Sault Ste. Marie, in Agawa Canyon, the very heart of Algoma country, where a two hour stop over provides you with the opportunity to photograph the many waterfalls and rocky cliffs


Last day:
Start from Sault Ste Marie at 7:30 am, along Trans Canada 17 to Mckerrow, and get Espanola. To whitefish fall to get Manitoulin Island , after travel around island, then go south to get South Baymouth and take ferry to Tobermory of Bruce Island.     如果只是开车在高速公路上狂奔,那一定会错过很多好东西.从Sault Ste Marie 开始往西北有很多壮观的峡谷瀑布,除了大家知道看枫叶的agwa canyon,还有agwa beach, Aquasabon Falls and gorge, high/middle/low fall, ouimet canyon, silver fall, mink fall,kakabeca fall(比Niagra fall还高), mountain Mccae(如果你能登顶那你一定觉得不虚此生), sleeping giant, lion head(不是georgian bay那个)就是路程太长而且不为人知.带路的glen长在雷湾,从小听说过有三个美丽的峡谷,但50年来也只去过一个ouimet canyon,这个eagle canyon是第一次去,然后另外一个craven lake就没有好路可以进去,没有人带根本转不到那世外桃源,CBC想拍摄都不行(当地人不让,怕破坏了). ouimet canyon号称加拿大第一长峡谷延伸1000英里从Lake superior 到 Lake Nipgon,可惜供游客走的只有500米.其他要自己拿指南针了. eagle canyon比较小但极其壮观惊险,进去必须签生死状waiver,摔死自负,有两座悬桥,要吓mm就可要好好利用了.

    越往西北走天气变换无常,所以第一次没有好天气不要沮丧,有空再来一次.我们也是走了多次才大概有个数.比安省南部要壮观.

      I plan to have a trip to Sault Ste Marie this early Oct and there are two possible ways to get there
      1) From Toronto - 400 to Hwy. 69 to Trans Canada Hwy. 17, approximate drive time eight hours
      2) Get to Bruce Island - > take ferry to Manitoulin Island - > Espanlo - > take Trans Canada Hwy 17 to get Sault Ste Marie

      I have never been north Ontario before and could you tell me which way is better? also any nice place to see except for agwa canyon?

      • The first one is quicker if you've never visit Bruce Peninsula. The ferry will cost you $55 dollars. -tny(let it snow); 2004-8-15 (#1843424@0)
      • the ferry has time constraint(3 times a day) and no reservation for noon/afternoon, and something here you need to consider -tintin168(tintin); 2004-8-15 {436} (#1843714@0)
        you may not get a spot when you arrive after you sightseeing something around there. the rate is 27.5 for small vehicle and 25$ for 2person I just did this time, it saves about 300km but timing not flexible, you need to wait plus 1.5 hour passing, the view the earlier you go and wait youprobably can do the same thing driving around the bay. and it take only that many cars so the risk not get on board and wait overday/night is there.
