1) BS of Computer (Bei Da), got interview after landing third day and got offer of 50K+ after one week. (best case I knew so far)
2) BS in Civil (China), worked in restraunt 5 months, found a job in water treatment company, 40K+
3) MS in Economics (Shanghai), found a database job after landing 7 months, 45K+
4) MS in EE (China), no job for 11 months, now found a good job in oil field, 50K+
5) Ph.D. in EE, worked as postdoc for 1.5 year, found a job in a big chemical company, now position in senior engineer and project manager, about 80K+.
6) Ph.D. in EE, worked as postdoc for 2 years, found a job in a consulting company, then jumped to a better place, 70K+
7) MS in EE, found a job after landing two weeks, laidoff after 2.5 years, now using EI.
8) MS in CS, found a job after landing two months, now jumped to a better company. 65K+
9) BS in EE, found job after landing 5 months,40K+
10) BS in mechanics, landing 10 months, still no real job,
Summary:
1) English is very very critical factor, specially oral communication is No.1 for new immigrants.
2) The resume writing is important !
3) Try to know more friends, most of them found job from friends' introduction or information
4) generally speaking, one year is normal time for settling down, think it again when you give up Canada,
5) Very fortunely, now to find a low imcome job is very easy (in Edmonton), survival is easy.
6) try to learn more and more about Canada's management and system, this will be helpful for job hunting.
